Tank Volume Calculation

V = Q × t. Freeboard increases gross volume; a rough rectangle or cylinder is suggested. Seismic, mixer and level instruments are separate.

Calculator

Duty shows a suggested HRT band; you keep the time. V = Q × t. Freeboard raises gross volume; H ≈ 3.5 m, L/W ≈ 2 is rough geometry.

Tank duty

Suggested HRT appears below; override the time freely.

Volume

Typically 10–20% for overflow, foam and level uncertainty.

Cells and live volume

Choose 2 or more cells for duty/standby.

Optional. Mixer dead zone; left blank, live volume is omitted. Mixed equalization is often 80–90%.

Geometry

Optional. If blank: rectangle H ≈ 3.5 m, L/W ≈ 2; cylinder in a 2–4 m band.

Cylinder only. If blank, diameter is derived from the cell gross volume.

Tank volume screens Envora Global duties — equalization, chemical contact, clearwell, RO permeate tank, chemical day tank and sludge holding — with V = Q × t. Units must match: m³/h × hours = m³; minutes convert to hours. The duty shows a suggested HRT band; you keep the time.

On wastewater trains, equalization levels flow and pollutant load (https://www.envoraglobal.com/en/water-purification/wastewater-treatment-plant-installation/). After RO, a permeate tank buffers CIP and demand (https://www.envoraglobal.com/en/water-purification/seawater-treatment-systems/). A day tank follows dosing-tool L/h; a clearwell holds filter product on drinking-water plants (https://www.envoraglobal.com/en/water-purification/drinking-water-treatment-facility-installation/). Sludge holding sits before thickening and dewatering (https://www.envoraglobal.com/en/water-purification/oil-refinery-wastewater-treatment-plants/).

Freeboard (typically 10–20%) raises gross volume for overflow, foam and level uncertainty. Optional cell count splits duty/standby; a live-volume fraction applies mixer dead zone to net volume. If you constrain H or D, geometry follows; otherwise a rectangle uses H ≈ 3.5 m and L/W ≈ 2.

The output is pre-sizing. Seismic, mixer torque and potable CT (concentration × time) are out of scope; Envora mechanical design, P&ID and site checks remain required.

Who is it for?

Process and civil engineers placing a first equalization, contact, clearwell, permeate, day-tank or sludge-holding volume on the layout.

How it works

Pick a duty, read the suggested HRT, then override time. Flow and time are required. Freeboard 0–40%. Cells, spare, live volume and H/D are optional. Geometry does not change V = Q × t; it only places the cell gross volume.

Assumptions and limits

V = Q × t; plug flow is not assumed. No seismic, mixer torque, sludge hopper or potable CT. Day-tank Q is chemical m³/h; sludge Q is sludge volume — not wastewater Q.

Frequently asked questions

How long should equalization be?

Flow and load equalization is a standard Envora wastewater stage (https://www.envoraglobal.com/en/water-purification/wastewater-treatment-plant-installation/). Four to twelve hours is common; textile and food peaks may need more. The tool shows a band; you keep the time.

How is an RO permeate tank sized?

Take permeate flow from the RO calculator; 1–4 h of production is a typical CIP and demand buffer. Seawater plants monitor tank levels on SCADA (https://www.envoraglobal.com/en/water-purification/seawater-treatment-systems/). Remineralization is a separate stage after the tank.

How does the day tank connect to dosing?

Get L/h from the dosing calculator, then enter m³/h here (L/h ÷ 1000). Eight to twenty-four hours of stock is common. Envora P&IDs specify spare dosing pumps; two-cell duty/standby is frequent.

Does this include drinking-water CT?

No. V = Q × t is contact or storage volume; chlorine residual × time (CT) and fire reserve are not added. Confirm the clearwell in drinking-water mechanical design (https://www.envoraglobal.com/en/water-purification/drinking-water-treatment-facility-installation/).

How long should sludge be held?

One to three days before thickening and dewatering (belt press, decanter, plate press) is common. Flow is sludge volume, not wastewater Q. Refinery sludge management: https://www.envoraglobal.com/en/water-purification/oil-refinery-wastewater-treatment-plants/

Cylinder or rectangle?

Steel and GRP are often cylindrical; concrete equalization and clearwells are often rectangular. You may lock H or D. The hint places volume; it is not a material choice.

How do I connect this to pump selection?

Feed fill / empty flow into the pump-power tool with the tank-fill application. Static head comes from tank elevation and line length. Use the contact form for a quotation.
